6th Grade Art Show

On May 3, sixth graders participated in a joint art show and reception with Herman Thompson, a SC folk artist known for his large metal sculptures made from found objects. Mr. Thompson's unique works have incorporated such items as old cars, washing machine parts, and steel-toed shoes, and he brought several of his large pieces to further inspire the students. The art connects with the sixth graders' study of SC history, which culminates with a paper reflecting on what each student knows and loves about his or her state. Paul Methaney, curator at the SC State Museum, also visited campus to present a slide show that introduced the students to many other styles of folk art.
