National Thespian Festival

A group of Upper School students represented Heathwood Hall at the national Thespian Festival in Lincoln, Nebraska from June 21 – 26. Delegates from Troupe 3859 included Hannah Floyd, Eliza Dunaway, Shawnee Garrick, Suzanne Carney, Anna Williams, Whitney Bragg, Whitney Waites, Lynette Spigner, troupe sponsor Melissa Swick, chaperones Kevin and Sue Swick. Approximately 2700 delegates from throughout the United States, as well as international delegates from Canada and the United Kingdom, attended this Festival. The first group in Heathwood history to do so, all eight of the Heathwood students participated in the Individual Events program. Under the direction of Heathwood drama teacher Melissa Swick, the students performed on Tuesday, June 22, earning two ratings of Excellent (second highest possible) and one rating of Superior (highest possible) for their group performance. These ratings reflect outstanding accomplishment at the national level. Congratulations also go to rising senior Whitney Bragg, who participated in the college/university audition program and received a truly impressive total of fourteen callbacks from colleges and universities. The Heathwood delegates experienced a wide variety of exciting theatrical opportunities throughout the week, such as mainstage performances by student troupes from across the nation, workshops conducted by theatre professionals, and one-act play marathons.
